I like the Regency era in general, so it made sense to put the related fandoms all together. I'm surprised that I found enough readable Austen fanfic to put in this post... not that I don't love Pride & Prejudice or Northanger Abbey, but I figured most of the fic would be terrible. All the books will be represented here, if I find decent fics to recommend. Only non-canonical or minor pairings are marked.

JANE AUSTEN: PRIDE & PREJUDICE
~An Ever-Fixed Mark, by AMarguerite. A soulmark AU; when it's possible to have first or last names, Elizabeth's mark of "Fitzwilliam" leads her to a happy marriage with Colonel Fitzwilliam, who has "Bennet"; the reader is aware of Darcy's painful pining, and slowly (so very slowly) Elizabeth is catching on. No infidelity, thankfully (it's a squick for me), and no emotional infidelity either, which is just as important. Elizabeth/Colonel Fitzwilliam, plus eventual canon pairings and at least one surprise pairing.

~Five Sons Mr and Mrs Bennet Never Had, by biichan. Each chapter is a glimpse of an AU in which one of the daughters is a son... so we get Jane-->John, Elizabeth-->Edward, Mary-->Matthew, Kitty-->Charles, and Lydia-->Lucas. Some of these are more disastrous than others. Also, I liked that Darcy is always attracted to Elizabeth regardless of gender and vice versa.
~
The Life and Times of Gilroy Hurst, Gentleman, in which a minor character makes anachronistic jokes and saves the other characters from their own folly. Mr. Hurst has UST for Charlotte Lucas, but the end result is Mr. Hurst/Mrs. Hurst and Charlotte/OMC, as well as Mary Bennet/OMC.
~Miss De Bourgh in Bath, by Swordswallower17. Exactly what it sounds like - a minor character gets a chance to move out from under her mother's shadow. Anne De Bourgh/OMC.
~The Part of Her Hair, by scioscribe. Mary Bennet falls in love with a woman. Mary Bennet/OFC.
~The Prudent Motive, by Malini. What if Elizabeth had prudently accepted Darcy's first proposal, without loving him first? Answer: it is generally agreed upon that a Elizabeth who comes to know Darcy will grow to love him; however, the problem of confessing her original motive still exists.
~
Sarah's Story, by Stacy B. A devoted family servant observes the lifetime of the Darcy couple. The ending brought me to tears, mostly because I also loved the Darcys as Sarah did by then, and the death by old age of one was devastating.
~Thorough-Bass and Human Nature, by MildredMost. Mary confuses and delights a young lord with her preference for erudition and music over dancing and gossip. Mary Bennet/OMC, with an interesting open marriage in the background for Lydia and Mr. Wickham.
~An odd addition to this section: Jane Austen and The Onion headlines. Stills from the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice are given The Onion-style captions, and it is hilarious

JANE AUSTEN: MANSFIELD PARK

~
Everingham, by Katharine T. Henry Crawford manages to do the right thing and not go off in pursuit of Maria Rushworth. Henry/Fanny, Edmund/Mary Crawford. It's a good story, because the Crawfords and their spouses do not initially have happy marriages, which is more realistic than any other result.

JANE AUSTEN: OTHER/MULTIPLE
~
i'll write you harmony in c, by Agent of the Apothecary. A blue-haired medical student Mary Bennet despairs of humanity in general, her sisters in particular, and extra-hatefully for that letch Henry Crawford. Obviously borrows heavily from Pride & Prejudice and Mansfield Park, but modern forms of characters from all the books make cameos. Ultimately Mary Bennet/Henry Crawford, with prior Mary/Marianne Dashwood and Mary/Fitzwilliam Darcy.
~
The Firstborn, by Margareth C. Sullivan. Mr. Bennet actually did produce an heir with his first wife, who died of grief after their son was abducted. 26 years later, Henry Tilney visits his friends Bingley and Darcy, and certain wheels begin to spin. Crossover between Northanger Abbey and Pride & Prejudice.

GEORGETTE HEYER:
~A Poet and a Scholar, by pene. A crossover between Venetia and The Grand Sophy. At one of the promised orgies, Aubrey meets Augustus.
~
Clean Linen, by cimorene. A crossover between The Unknown Ajax and April Lady. Claud and Felix meet, and do a Darracott family Christmas together (complete with required mystery). Claud Darracott/Felix Hethersett.
~
Inconvenience, by Astolat. A coda for The Convenient Marriage. Horry decides to get to the bottom of her husband's problem with Lethbridge - and it turns out not to be only about his sister's elopement. Past Lethbridge/Rule, eventual Lethbridge/Rule/Horatia.
~
Of Workshops and Ducks, by hazel. In the future of Frederica, how Felix makes something of his curiosity and becomes part of the Industrial Revolution. Short but sweet.

HORATIO HORNBLOWER:
~Figureheads, by Victoria Bitter. It takes Archie a while to (re)learn how to stand. Archie Kennedy/Horatio Hornblower.
~The Gambler, by Khaleesian. Rewriting the last few chapters of Lieutenant Hornblower - so plenty of whist and slash. William Bush/Horatio Hornblower.
~The Wrong Lady, by morticiamom. Crossover with Pride and Prejudice(!). Colonel Edrington is ordered by his mother to find a wife, ideally that new-to-society Anne de Bourgh. Edrington falls for someone else entirely. Edrington/Georgiana Darcy.

TEMERAIRE (a series by Naomi Novik, which boils down to "Napoleonic Wars with dragons"):
~
A Room With A View, by hollimichele. What Perscitia gets up to while our protagonists are continents away - politics, harrying Wellington, and overturning British customs, apparently.
~A Very Respectable Marriage, by WerewolvesAreReal. Post-canon; changes to British family and property laws that were meant to accommodate dragons have the side effect of legalizing all forms of consensual marriage. Laurence/Tharkay.
~All The Oceans, by WerewolvesAreReal. AU, Temeraire is a Japanese Water-Spitter rather than a Chinese Celestial. This means he and Laurence become the Cryptids of the British Navy.
 WIP.
~
An Abundance of Captains, by fadeaccompli. A short crack fic designed to slip in between scenes of book 1. Temeraire and Laurence make a brief trip to pick up another unusual new dragon and captain.
~Animal Husbandry, by WerewolvesAreReal. AU, Laurence was forced to give up Temeraire the moment the Reliant docked, but neither can forget their connection... and Temeraire is not the obedient type.
~
Exit, Pursued By A Dragon, by Malfaisant. Assuming a happy ending for the series - the Japanese send Lady Kiyomizu with their embassy to London, where some Shakespeare and love confessions consequently happen. Laurence/Tharkay.
~
Mutiny on the Reliant, by WerewolvesAreReal. AU from early in book 1: the crew of the Reliant abandon Temeraire, Laurence and Carter out of fear of dragons, and they rescue themselves, in the process becoming Accidental Overlords of a privateering fleet. Glorious crack, and in its way a fix-it fic.
--->Now with terrific sequel: The Battle of Dover. In which the fleet gets bigger, and Tharkay joins up with his pack of ferals.
~Reckless Captain, by WerewolvesAreReal. Role-swap AU: Laurence the Regal Copper accidentally acquires a young Chinese urchin as a captain, who then turns out to be more than he seems.
~
The Rich Are Always Respectable, by AMarguerite. AU, crossover with Jane Austen's novels. Tharkay unexpectedly finally inherits his father's estate, and has to decide what to do with it.
~
To Timbuktu (And Back Again)
, by Novembersmith. AU for Crucible of Gold. Iskierka points out that Tharkay has obviously been courting Laurence. Laurence/Tharkay.
