trace_by_echoBackdated from a year later, to hang out with the other fandom posts. I got into this fandom for the supremely petty reason of wanting to watch a "Q" anime for an alphabet challenge. The joke was on me, because I loved learning about the Chinese e-sports world, and the characters of Team Happy have grown on me like a fungus.
SERIOUS GEN FIC:
~And I'll Return From The West, With Victory At My Back, by madmaenad. Time Travel AU: after dying of lung cancer at age 34, Ye Xiu goes back in time to his 24-year-old body, in a version of the world where he died instead of Su Muqiu. He can't imagine not trying to get back to Glory... and in his pursuit of excellence, he accidentally reunites with old friends and changes things for the better.
--> a humorous follow-up: Urban Legend #85466: Ye Rui Really IS a -, by Blurb_brain. In this more commercialized version of Glory, Ye Xiu (who uses the fake name Rui in this AU) can't escape marketing schemes, especially when they're based on mythology and he's built up a reputation as a real-life cryptid. Bonus points for coming up with an explanation for the original fic's title.
~Autumn Blessing, by Mythril. Crossover with Hikaru no Go. Zhou Zekai has a ghost, who misses his sister and his best friend. Possible future Ye Xiu/Zhou Zekai.
~in carnage i bloom (like a flower in the dawn), by paradisetrain. AU, Su Mucheng convinces Ye Xiu that he doesn't need to quietly accept his forced resignation, and can instead make his presence known on social media.
~northwest, the autumn, by halcyonine. After retiring, Ye Xiu is asked for his thoughts on changes to Glory. He finds a way to memorialize his oldest friend.
~World Champions, by TheDefenestrator. AU, Glory was just a front for training mech operators for an intergalactic tournament with Earth itself on the line.
CRACK GEN FIC
~A Classic Look Never Goes Out Of Style, by madmaenad. What if Glory was a game that required VR suits for the more complex skills (or basically, anything a serious player or pro would need to do)? Ye Xiu breaks hearts with his rocking bod.
~In the Eye of the Camera, by TheDefenestrator. The Ye family requires its oldest scion to go out anonymously and make their mark on the world before returning to lead the company. Ye Xiu brings his brother with him as a bit of a cheat... since he can use his brother's name and face, just not his own. This means that one brother plays games, while the other handles the press - and they drive the other pros batty.
~Never-Ending Feast, by TheDefenestrator. There's a chat for retired-suddenly-without-notice-or-further-contact Glory Players. I especially like how their chat names are assigned. There's a few background ships, but nothing major (although the player who retired because he eloped is a diehard shipper).
~[zhou zekai's face of innocence.jpg], by halcyonine. An April Fool's Day special event, with avatar switching, gets some people to do stupid things. As the author put it, Zhou Zekai *is* the Unrivaled Super Hottie.
FIC WITH RELATIONSHIPS:
~All-Stars and Offshoots series, by listlesspath. What if Ye Qiu happened to attend All-Stars season 8 as a spectator? While the crack is high and the romance low, the second fic is a pile of thirsty players getting a ring on Ye Xiu's fingers - including Yu Wenzhou, Zhou Zekai, Han Wenqing, Wang Jiexi and Huang Shaotian. I haven't bothered with the third fic.
~Bullying (aka adventures in wooing), by jellysunfish. Because the way Ye Xiu pushes Xu Boyuan's buttons is very "pigtail-pulling", if you stop to think about it. Ye Xiu/Xu Boyuan, with a lot of background jealous characters.
~Less Drowning, More Land, by BlueberryAsh. Team Happy goes on vacation, and Wei Chen feels like he's a co-parent with Ye Xiu. Wei Chen/Ye Xiu.
~Lost Cards & Stolen Hearts, by eringeosphere. AU, Ye Xiu didn't run away so he never met the Su kids - at least, not until the goddess of Glory arranges for the Lord Grim card to end up where it belongs. Nice details include close Ye twins, sentient Glory avatars, and Su Muqiu being both alive and head over heels for Ye Xiu. Su Muqiu/Ye Xiu.
