Fandom #48: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System
This, like Blue Exorcist, has also been backdated; I first began reading in this fandom in July 2020, and while it hasn't been long, I've been enjoying my dip into wuxia parody and deconstruction. If you liked isekai in theory but thought the plots had gotten stale, switching to older protagonists and a fantasy China setting might be just the ticket. Well, and it's extremely gay, which is part of the appeal. EDIT: last updated August 2023.
The majority of fic address the neo-canon couple of Luo Binghe/2nd Shen Qingqiu a.k.a. Shen Yuan; sometimes I like something totally different. If I mark a fic as the former, that's because it's the primary focus of that fic - but that pairing might still appear in other fics. That's why it might seem initially like that pairing isn't so common.
Luo Binghe (LB)/Shen Yuan (SY)
~Is it running in our blood, is it running in our veins, by half_sleeping. What if Proud Immortal Demon Way had, among its other faults, included some lazy ABO tropes?

SQH is permitted by the System to have an escape plan after canon ends. His attempts to sneak into Iceland are complicated by the fact that he wrote something along the lines of "all myths are true" in PIDW, and accidentally became a real godlike figure.

AU, a sex-pollened SQH who is a transman got pregnant by Tianlang-jun before the real plot kicked off - actually, the pregnancy coincides with the months leading up to his ascension as a Peak Lord, so this is a problem. ~My Scariest Shixiong Can't Read My Mind (Thank God!), by Ehann. Shang Qinghua has always admired Shen Qingqiu. Due to a mindreading plant residue, SQQ is now quite aware of this. SQH/original Shen Qingqiu.
~Not in All Possible Worlds, But in These Few series, by Violent_entertainment. A bunch of AUs with Shang Qinghua in various couplings (some are platonic). My favorites have been the one with LQG, Wei Qingwei, Qi Qingqi, and MQF.
~Our Story's Just Begun, by aishiteru. Romantic pile-up, in which LB and SY somehow keep adding the main cast to their bedroom. Eventual additions of YQY, LQG, MBJ and SQH to the marriage (the latter two by a wife plot that has SY seething).
~put me in, coach, by tshirt. As it turns out, Luo Binghe not having a harem means that he's not initially very good at sex. Shang Qinghua is reluctantly available to advise - which starts at the basics and quickly jumps right off into the realm of kink. Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe realize that they wouldn't kick Shang Qinghua out of bed. Eventual LB/SY/SQH (as the author put it, MBJ is busy fantasizing about his minion-to-lover pining slowburn, while SQH is getting busy).
~Royal Consort Liu Qingge series, by InsanityxCreation. If Shen Yuan doesn't want Liu Qingge, the power couple of the Winter court will be happy to add a third to their marriage. Eventual LQG/SQH/MBJ. WIP.
~Sha Hualing vs. The Wife Plots, by JerichoJaspersJeromeJr. As the summary says, with two out of three demon lords married, it was perhaps inevitable that the remaining wife plots gravitated towards Sha Hualing. Eventual Sha Hualing/Qi Qingqi.

~Achievement Unlocked, by The Feels Whale. Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan get sent on a side-quest (a la a domestic fluff bonus chapter) back to the modern world to meet/deal with SY's family.
~A Child Once, by Tossawary. Shang Qinghua gets deaged. It's impossible to hide the transmigration at that point.
~A Cloak of Feathers, by Asymptotical. AU, shapeshifters like swan-maidens and selkies existed in the real world, but since Airplane hated swans, Shen Yuan has strong dysmorphia in the cultivation world. His students come to believe in his stories about swans a little too much, and assume that someone's stolen their Shizun's cloak. WIP.
~Be Careful and Be Faithful, by Asymptotical. AU, Shang Qinghua is a little too friendly to young Binghe and the protagonist decides to apply to An Ding Peak. Bonus points for SQH's System actually being Shen Yuan.
~Dust and Broken Grains series, by The Feels Whale. Binghe decides to play nice rather than threaten his shizun during the Sower Demon arc. WIP.
~i, a demon lord, have decided to live in peace, but i'm kind of lonely?, by tshirt. Shen Yuan encourages Luo Binghe to make friends. He's not really sure how to do that. He succeeds anyway.
~i'll jump over the wall and i'll wait for you there series, by Kieron_ODuibhir. The jig is up, literally: the System is arrested by otherworldly police who shatter the masquerade for SY and SQH. Each fic is done, but there's room for more in this series.
~In Tune, by Angry_gremlin_commando. AU, when they are young Peak Lords, Shen Qingqiu starts visiting SQH Leisure House, largely because of an anonymous musician friend (who appears to have mixed heritage or demon contamination but Shen Qingqiu decides not to ask) with whom he hangs out and makes lovely duets. WIP.
~The Many Trials and Tribulations of Ming Fan, by The Feels Whale. It's almost impossible to take his shizun anywhere and get work done, Ming Fan bemoans, what with all the amorous young ladies.
~pride is not the word i'm looking for, by Tossawary. AU in that Shang Qinghua decides to take a vacation during his early years as a Peak Lord to see his baby protagonist, and guilt-trips himself into savng the Luo family; Binghe's adoptive mom and SQH end up adopting each other as family. A very slow burn fic (by chapter 13 out of 50, Binghe is still a little kid). Eventual background MBJ/SQH.
~Primary Education on Spring Mountain, by JerichoJaspersJeromeJr. Well, apparently the worldbuilding requires that Binghe has hundreds of children with hundreds of wives. If he's not producing them biologically, then someone else can father them - and the kids can arrive as nascent cultivators.
~Shen Yuan of No Relation, by Gemi. Shen Yuan incarnates in as a youth Binghe's age, with a strong resemblance to Shen Qingqiu. WIP.
~Show the Screenshots, by A_Non_ymousWriter. Suddenly select people can overhear the System Chat that SQH and SY are gifted with early in the story. WIP.
~Sit With Your Soul, by Tossawary. AU with daemons. Shen Yuan arrives as a replacement - for Shen Qingqiu's daemon. Hopefully this one will get a sequel - we leave off with SQQ and SY getting along, but no longterm plot resolution.
~Stepping Up, by Tossawary. Shang Qinghua accidentally picks Luo Binghe for An Ding.
~The Bamboo Scholar series, by Mayvn. Shen Yuan dies again, and revives in the past as a young Shen Jiu in the Qiu manor. WIP, stalled.
~The Phantom of the... Warm Red Pavilion???, by MysteryTeacup. AU, SQH gives away his weirdness in the lead-up to their generation's ascension as Peak Lords, so Shen Qingqiu demands answers and gets an accidental job of holding a "Daqin-Style Theatre Performance" for the prior generation lords (Daqin being Ancient Rome; SQH claimed he had visions of foreign futures). A hilarious WIP.
~Vicarious, by Anonymous. AU, the original Shen Qingqiu sees a physical resemblance between LB and SQH and assumes the latter is the former's deadbeat dad. WIP.

Weirdly Compelling Crossovers
~Catch a Falling Star, by Tossawary. An AU crossover with Stardust. Basically, transmigrators come in as stars, and Shen Yuan falls to the earth due to his interest in the plot he knows. Eventual SY/LB/LQG, but subdued (this is more of an adventure story).
~The SOLDIER General's Self-Saving Shizun, by esama. Crossover with FFVII, what if the Sun and Moon Dew Flower doesn't work and SY wakes up as Sephiroth? WIP.
~One-Winged Angel's Self-Saving System, by Terias. A response to the above crossover with FFVII. What if Sephiroth inhabits the empty Flower body? WIP.
